CoveritLive informs and educates in the midst of Hurricane Sandy disaster

As Hurricane Sandy has wreaked havoc on much of the northeastern United States, CoveritLive has been the conduit that has allowed many storm followers access to live up-to-date coverage throughout the storm. During the storm more than five million readers in the United States and around the world, clicked into CiL live blogs for storm tracking, flooding, power-outage and evacuation information.

Yahoo News, Weather.com, Aftonbladet and LeMonde were excellent outlets for CoveritLive blogs during Hurricane Sandy as contributors shared information and provided perspective of the situation as it developed.

• Yahoo News and Weather.com attracted more than four million viewers to their live blogs during the storm, with Yahoo News’ The Lookout blog educating almost 2.6 million people with its coverage that anchored the Yahoo home page for multiple days.

• Live blog coverage of the storm spanned outside the United States as well, with Canadian, Swedish, French, Norwegian and many other publishers using CiL to track the hurricane.

CoveritLive Weekly: Top five social TV events (Aug. 20-26)

As football season nears, the summer is winding down with a wide variety of international events and this week saw events from five different countries fill out the weekly CoveritLive Social TV rankings. The ratings are highlighted by the Weather Channel’s coverage of Hurricane Isaac in the United States, while European football in Spain and England, rally car racing in Germany and Australian Rules Football landed on the list.

Late last week, Hurricane Isaac caught the nation’s attention in the U.S. and Weather Channel viewers took their conversations online during the network’s coverage of the pending storm. The live chat on Weather.com attracted more than 42,000 viewers who asked weather experts their hurricane questions as they followed coverage on television on Friday.

Eurosport claimed the second position in the weekly rankings for its live coverage of the Rally of Germany rally-car race. More than 41,000 viewers got social during the race as France’s Sebastien Loeb claimed his ninth win on the track in the last decade.

Aftonbladet’s Social TV event for the matchup between Real Madrid and Barcelona ranks third this week after drawing in excess of 26,000 viewers to its coverage Barcelona’s 3-2 victory in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup. The Swedish publisher also claimed the No. 5 position as more than 22,000 viewers chatted as they watched Everton upend Manchester United on opening weekend of the Premier League season.

The fourth spot in this week’s ratings was held by Telstra/AFL.com for its coverage of the Australian Rules Football match between the Sydney Swans and Hawthorn Hawks. The match drew an audience of over 22,000 as the Hawks knocked off the Swans.
