CoveritLive Weekly: Top five social TV events (Nov. 12-18)

By Spencer Kitley

After a week with several marquee events, a wide variety of events round out the weekly CoveritLive Social TV top five for the last week. The NFL continued to own a place in the rankings with its Thursday Night Football coverage, while international users Bild and Ilta-Sanomat jumped into the fray along with Yahoo, ESPN and the WWE.

Topping the charts for the week was German publisher, Bild’s Social TV coverage of MTV’s Europe Music Awards. More than 64,000 viewers joined the conversation as Carly Rae Jepsen took the night’s biggest award for song of the year with her hit single, “Call Me Maybe.”

The NFL once again claimed their place among the top weekly events, landing in the No. 2 position with its coverage of the Thursday Night Football showdown between the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills. The league remained in the CiL top three for the ninth consecutive week, drawing an audience of almost 37,000 to its event.

Formula One Racing returned to the United States on Sunday with the United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas and Finnish publisher, Ilta-Sanomat earned the No. 4 position in the ratings as its live chat entertained viewers. More than 36,000 viewers joined the discussion during the race as McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton captured the victory.

UFC 154 was also a big event over the weekend, nabbing the fourth and fifth positions as Yahoo and ESPN provided live coverage of the pay-per-view bout. Yahoo attracted almost 35,000 viewers to its event and ESPN drew a crowd of almost 30,000 viewers as Georges St. Pierre defeated Carlos Condit in the welterweight title fight.

Falling just outside the top five on the weekly CiL charts was the WWE, which attracted an audience just shy of 30,000 to its live chat for its Survivor Series pay-per-view event.

*The CoveritLive blog releases its weekly social TV rankings every Monday. The data for the ranking system is exclusive to events that are tied to a television broadcast and the viewer metric is defined as a reader that actively clicks into a CiL event.
