CoveritLive Weekly: Top five social TV events (Oct. 22-28)

By Spencer Kitley

The CoveritLive Social TV weekly rankings return this week after a one week hiatus, but once again Yahoo’s Presidential debate coverage and the NFL’s Thursday Night Football top the charts.

Yahoo’s coverage of the second and third presidential debates has topped the Social TV charts in each of the last two weeks after the news provider’s coverage of the vice presidential debate claimed the second spot three weeks ago. Yahoo topped the charts this week as almost 200,000 viewers joined the conversation as President Barack Obama and Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney squared off in their third and final debate.

The NFL remained in the top three for the seventh consecutive week with its Thursday Night Football Social TV dashboard. More than 52,000 viewers got social during the Tampa Bay Buccaneers surprising 36-17 victory over the Minnesota Vikings.

The third spot in the weekly CiL countdown was claimed by the WWE’s live coverage of its Hell in a Cell pay-per-view event. Almost 53,000 viewers joined the live chat on WWE.com as champion CM Punk retained his title in controversial decision against Ryback.

For the third time this season the Chicago Bears landed among the top five Social TV events for the week as they narrowly pulled out a 23-22 victory against the Carolina Panthers. The event landed the No. 4 position as more than 38,000 viewers joined the conversation as Robbie Gould helped the Bears push their record to 6-1 with his game-winning field goal.

Finland’s Sanoma News nabbed the fifth spot in the ratings with its coverage of the F1 Indian Grand Prix, providing live perspective as defending world champion Sebastian Vettel cruised to his fourth consecutive win and extended his lead in this year’s title race. The Finnish news provider drew an audience of almost 33,000 for the 17th event of the F1 season.

*The CoveritLive blog releases its weekly social TV rankings every Monday. The data for the ranking system is exclusive to events that are tied to a television broadcast and the viewer metric is defined as a reader that actively clicks into a CiL event.
