By Spencer Kitley

The past week in Social TV provided some great second screen experiences that comprise the current edition of the CoveritLive Social TV rankings. This week’s top five features live news reporting from Paris, the NFL’s Thursday Night Football, the Australian Rules Football draft, a marquee boxing match and live updates from the most recent Formula 1 race.

French publisher LeMonde topped the chart for the week with its live coverage of the Paris shootings that spread panic across the city for three days. An audience in excess of 530,000 viewers joined the conversation to follow news as they watched live on television.

The NFL’s Thursday Night Football dashboard claimed a spot among the top five for the 11th straight week as the New Orleans Saints took on the Atlanta Falcons. Almost 340,000 viewers got social during the game as the Saints squeaked out a 17-13 victory.

The Australian Rules Football League’s landed in the third spot with its live chat and commentary during the NAB AFL Draft. During the league’s draft more than 220,000 fans discussed each pick as they unfolded and shared their thoughts.

Yahoo Sports captured the fourth spot with its live updates during the Manny Pacquiao vs. Brandon Rios welterweight championship fight for the vacant WBO title. Pacquiao won via unanimous decision and took home the vacant championship, while almost 190,000 viewers chatted live on Yahoo.

Finnish publisher Ilta-Sanomat continued to solidify itself as a regular entry in the CiL rankings with its second screen experience during Formula 1’s Brazilian Grand Prix. An audience of almost 42,000 viewers followed the conversation around the race as Sebastian Vettel claimed his ninth straight Grand Prix victory.

*The CoveritLive blog releases its weekly social TV rankings every Monday. The data for the ranking system is exclusive to events that are tied to a television broadcast and the viewer metric is defined as a reader that actively clicks into a CiL event.
