CoveritLive Weekly: Top five Social TV events (May 13-19)

By Spencer Kitley

As May rolls on, international events and hockey continued to maintain their stronghold on the weekly CoveritLive Social TV rankings. The CBC, TV2 and Eurosport all returned to the top-five for the second consecutive week as a pair of hockey games, a reality TV finale, courtroom coverage and a European football championship celebration filled out the weekly ratings.

Topping the charts last week was German publisher, Bild’s live coverage of the finale of the reality TV program, Deutschland sucht den Superstar Finale. The German version of American Idol entertained an audience in excess of 164,000 viewers as Beatrice Egli won the show’s 10th season.

Slovakian newspaper, SME landed in the No. 2 spot for it live event coverage of the Slovakia vs. United States matchup in group play at the ice hockey world championship. Almost 55, 000 viewers got social during the game as Slovakia earned a 4-1 victory.

The CBC captured the third spot in the rankings for the week with its Hockey Night in Canada live dashboard discussion during a pair of NHL Playoff game seven showdowns last Monday. More than 54,000 viewers joined the chat as the New York Rangers ousted the Washington Capitals and the Boston Bruins upended the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Norwegian broadcaster, TV2 earned the fourth position in the weekly rankings, nabbing a spot in the top five for the fourth-straight week with its live coverage of the appeal hearing of imprisoned politician Rune Øygard. Almost 43,000 viewers joined the conversation about the appeal hearing within TV2’s live second screen dashboard.

Eurosport claimed the fifth and final spot in the rankings for its live coverage of Paris Saint Germain’s French League Championship celebration. More than 39,000 viewers joined the chat that profiled the award ceremony and victory parade that ended abruptly due to a violent clash between fans and police.

*The CoveritLive blog releases its weekly social TV rankings every Monday. The data for the ranking system is exclusive to events that are tied to a television broadcast and the viewer metric is defined as a reader that actively clicks into a CiL event.
