CoveritLive Weekly: Top five social TV events (July 16-22)

Social TV coverage of the 152nd playing of the British Open Championship buoyed the weekly CoveritLive Social TV rankings last week, with coverage of Ernie Els’ victory at Royal Lytham and St Annes claiming four of the top five spots., ESPN and the Golf Channel each landed places in the top five with their golf coverage, while ESPN claimed the only non-golf spot with its UFC 149 live event.

Sports Illustrated’s claimed the top two positions in the weekly ratings with its live coverage of the first and second rounds of the Open Championship that entertained more than 43,000 viewers last Thursday and almost 35,000 viewers on Friday.

ESPN’s Social TV coverage of the second round of the Open landed the third spot in the weekly rankings after more than 27,000 viewers watched Brandt Snedeker charge to the front of the pack after 36 holes of action. The Worldwide Leader in Sports also claimed the fourth spot with its live coverage of the UFC 149 pay-per-view that was headlined by the Bantamweight title bout between Renan Barao and Urijah Faber.

The final entry in the weekly top five was the Golf Channel’s second round Open coverage. Jason Sobel and John Hawkins entertained just shy of 20,000 viewers in the network’s live chat during Friday’s action.
